NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A Newport News man has been arrested and charged in connection with the April homicide of 28-year-old Imani Parrish, police announced Monday.

David Anderson, 30, was taken into custody without incident on Monday and charged with first-degree murder following a weeks-long investigation into Parrish’s death.

Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Antrim Drive on April 30 at approximately 8:57 p.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive individual. Upon arrival, officers found Parrish inside a residence. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Due to the nature of the injuries observed, the case was immediately investigated as a homicide, according to the Newport News Police Department.

Anderson was identified as a suspect during the investigation and arrested on June 2. No further details about the motive or relationship between the suspect and victim have been released.

Police credit community and technology

Police Chief Steve Drew credited the outcome to a combination of community cooperation, investigative efforts, and technological support.

Chief Drew thanked “the detectives for their dedication, the community for their cooperation and the city’s investment in technology which aided this investigation.”

Anderson remains in custody as the investigation continues. Officials have not disclosed whether additional charges may be filed.
