PARSIPPANY, N.J. — SafetyFirst Systems, a New Jersey company that provides driver and fleet safety services, is notifying affected individuals after a cybersecurity incident earlier this year, while Edelson Lechtzin LLP announced it is investigating potential class action claims related to the breach.

According to a press release issued Friday by the law firm, SafetyFirst Systems discovered suspicious activity on its computer network during a routine log review on or about Jan. 19. An investigation determined that an unauthorized third party accessed a limited portion of the company’s network between Jan. 16 and Jan. 19.

Investigation focuses on exposed personal information

According to Edelson Lechtzin LLP, the incident “may have compromised certain personal information such as names and other personal identification information.”

The firm said individuals who received a notification letter from SafetyFirst Systems could face an increased risk of identity theft or fraud. “Edelson Lechtzin LLP is investigating a potential class action to pursue legal remedies on behalf of individuals whose sensitive personal data may have been compromised in the SafetyFirst Systems breach,” the firm said.

Law firm encourages affected individuals to monitor accounts

The law firm recommends that anyone who received a breach notification regularly review financial account statements and credit reports for suspicious activity. It also advises preserving any letters or emails related to the incident and considering fraud alerts or credit monitoring services.

“Our firm will evaluate your rights and potential claims at no cost,” Edelson Lechtzin LLP said, encouraging affected individuals to seek a free case evaluation.

What comes next

SafetyFirst Systems has not publicly disclosed how many individuals may have been affected or whether additional categories of personal information were exposed. The investigation by Edelson Lechtzin LLP remains ongoing as the firm evaluates potential legal claims on behalf of impacted individuals.

Data breaches involving personal information can leave consumers vulnerable to fraud and identity theft, making it important for affected individuals to monitor financial accounts, review credit reports, and follow any guidance provided in official notification letters.
