FREDERICK, Md. — A Frederick man chasing a life-changing lottery win since the COVID-19 pandemic finally hit his biggest jackpot yet after scratching a $50,000 winning ticket during a routine coffee stop in Frederick.
The Maryland Lottery said the man claimed the prize Monday after winning on a 50X the Cash scratch-off ticket purchased at A-1 Mart on Himes Avenue. The winner said the moment he realized how much he had won left him emotional after years of hoping for a breakthrough.
“I’ve always hoped for a big win,” the Frederick resident said. “As a player, you play to win, but being a winner and seeing all those zeros brought tears of joy to my eyes.”
The winning moment unfolded during what began as an ordinary workday. The man stopped at A-1 Mart, located at 649 Himes Avenue, to buy coffee and picked up two 50X the Cash scratch-offs before heading out.
Second Scratch-Off Delivers $50,000 Surprise
The first ticket turned out to be a loser, but the second quickly changed his day.
