BALTIMORE — Two juveniles, ages 12 and 15, were arrested Thursday night after allegedly carrying out an armed carjacking in Northwest Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Police Department. Despite the severity of the crime, both were later released on electronic monitoring.

Officers responded to the 3400 block of Piedmont Avenue around 11:05 p.m. after reports of an armed robbery. Members of the Regional Auto Theft Taskforce, with assistance from Foxtrot and County Aviation, quickly located the stolen vehicle.

The suspects attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended shortly after, police said. Both were transported to the Juvenile Justice Center, where authorities requested detention. However, the juveniles were released on monitoring instead.

Police noted that the 15-year-old suspect has a history of six prior arrests, including charges of handgun violations, assault, and auto theft.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns over youth crime in the city as law enforcement and local leaders seek solutions to address repeat offenders.
