TOMS RIVER, NJ – A threat of violence at Toms River High School South led to a shelter-in-place event at the school on Friday.
According Toms River Police Department communications officer Jillian Messina, the shelter-in-place was activated out of caution after police learned of a threat of an impending fight by a non-student.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we currently have multiple police units at Toms River High School South for a shelter-in-place due to a female student concerned an acquaintance may come to the school to fight. There is no threat of weapons,” Messina said. “Officers will remain at the school until the investigation is complete.”
Messina said the district is asking parents not to respond to the school.
