CUMBERLAND, Md. — A woman arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle in Cumberland was found to have provided a false identity and was wanted in New Jersey, police said Wednesday.

Officers responded to a business on the first block of N. Wineow Street at 10:44 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a stolen vehicle in the parking lot. Police located the vehicle, confirmed it was stolen, and detained the suspects with assistance from the business staff.

One of the arrestees initially identified herself as Megan Duffy but was later determined to be Amanda Elizabeth Francis, 38, of Neptune, N.J. Authorities discovered she had an active arrest warrant from the New Jersey State Parole Board.

At this time, it is unsure whether or not the State of New Jersey will extradite Francis.

Francis, who was being held at the Allegany County Detention Center, was served with an arrest warrant that included additional charges. She appeared before a District Court Commissioner and was placed on a temporary commitment.

Francis is charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft between $25,000 and $100,000, possession of drug paraphernalia, fraud to avoid prosecution, and making a false statement.
