STUART, FL — In a significant animal rescue operation, the Martin County Sheriff’s Animal Services Unit, alongside the Criminal Investigations Division, seized 14 dogs from a residence marked by squalor.
The operation unfolded at 937 SE Spruce Street, Stuart, where the animals, including puppies, were found in extremely poor health, confined in cramped and filthy conditions. Some dogs were kept in small, homemade wooden crates covered with plastic tarps, severely restricting airflow, while others were confined to cages that hardly allowed any movement. Rosetta Saez, 47, the homeowner, professed ignorance of the conditions in her backyard, attributing the ownership of the dogs to 19-year-old Daniel Alajahaum Wilson, who resides at the same address. Wilson, claiming to breed and sell the dogs, alongside Saez, faced arrest for their neglect and mistreatment of the animals. Wilson is charged with 14 counts of animal cruelty, with bail set at $40,000, while Saez faces a single count of animal cruelty, with her bail set at $2,500.
The rescued dogs are now under the care of the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast, receiving medical attention and proper care after being officially relinquished by their previous owners. This action ensures they will not return to the conditions from which they were rescued.
