Man shot by off-duty officer during road rage confrontation in orange county

ORANGE COUNTY, NY – A man was critically injured after being shot by an off-duty police officer during a road rage incident, authorities said.

Investigators identified the injured man as Wallace F. Fisher, who allegedly exited his vehicle and brandished a knife during the confrontation.

The off-duty officer, identified as Kingston Police Officer Anthony Simon, then drew his firearm and shot Fisher.

Fisher was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, officials said.

Incident under investigation

Authorities have not disclosed what led to the confrontation or whether any charges will be filed.

Local and state investigators are reviewing the use of force and collecting witness statements from the scene.

The Kingston Police Department confirmed that Simon was off duty at the time and has been cooperating with the investigation.
