Baltimore, Maryland – The Maryland Lottery announced that a retired police officer from Prince George’s County claimed a $50,015 top prize after matching all five numbers in the April 3 Bonus Match 5 drawing, marking his largest win to date.
Lottery officials said the frequent player claimed his prize April 7 at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore, describing a consistent playing habit across multiple games. The winning ticket was purchased at the Royal Farms located at 100 Monument Avenue in Oxon Hill, with the retailer receiving a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.
Routine play leads to record win
The winner told lottery officials he regularly plays a variety of Maryland Lottery games, often participating across the full lineup each month. Despite prior smaller wins, he described the Bonus Match 5 jackpot as a personal milestone.
“Over the course of a month I bet that I play every game that you have,” he said. “And I’ve been pretty lucky. Lots of wins.”
His $50,015 prize included a $15 bonus from an additional lower-tier match on the same ticket, slightly boosting the standard top prize.
Morning check reveals big surprise
The retired officer said he discovered the win the morning after the drawing using the Maryland Lottery mobile app, part of his regular routine.
“I check my numbers right away when I wake up,” he said. Reflecting on the moment he realized he had matched all five numbers, he added, “I remember thinking, ‘Wow. It finally happened.’”
Despite the sizable payout, the winner said the result aligned with a long-held belief that a major win was inevitable.
“I’ve always felt that something big would come my way. This counts,” he said.
