BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – Congressman Andy Kim, an Obama State Department Democrat who serves on the House Armed Services Committee and is a favorite son of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi failed in his first mission as a U.S. Congressman. Despite his clout and his connections in D.C., the U.S. Veterans Administration will not be building a new Veterans healthcare facility in Brick Township.
Andy Kim told us he’s a veteran among veterans in Washington, D.C. He tells us about how he was General David Petreaus’ top civilian strategic advisor during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He sat beside President Obama in the White House at many high-level State Department and Veterans Administration meetings. The bottom line here is, Andy Kim couldn’t convince those same people as a sitting Congressman to deliver relief for New Jersey’s disabled veterans who urgently need better access to healthcare.
“Our veterans deserve the best care possible; but in Ocean County, they’re just not getting it,” Congressman Kim said. “I’ve been working alongside our veteran and local leaders from day one to finalize a deal to bring a new veteran health clinic to Ocean County. [We] failed,”
David Richter, Republican candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s Third District, today criticized Andy Kim and called out his failure to deliver for the veterans of the Third District.
“Andy Kim has made a habit out of failing to live up to his promises,” said Richter. “On his first day in office Andy broke his first promise, by voting to elect Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House. He claimed he did this so that he could gain better committee assignments to support the people of the district, notably our veterans. Well that broken promise was pointless, since the planned VA medical clinic that our veterans in Ocean County so desperately need has now been canceled.”
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs recently announced that it has canceled all procurement efforts for the long-planned clinic. The current facility, located in Brick Township, is outdated and overcrowded and does not provide adequate services to the region’s veterans.
“Now Andy is sending complaint letters to the VA after the fact, which we all know will have little impact on their decision. The time for action has passed, Congressman Kim, and you have failed New Jersey’s veterans,” added Richter.
Richter is the former CEO of global construction management firm Hill International. During his time at the company, Hill grew from a struggling family business with less than 300 employees into a successful public company with more than 4,300 employees. A lifelong Republican, Richter grew up in and has spent most of his life living and working in the Third District. He earned two bachelor’s degrees and a law degree from Penn as well as master’s degrees from Oxford and Harvard. Richter and his wife Michelle, who have been married for 20 years, are the parents of four daughters.
