BAYONNE, NJ – A body was found on the banks of Newark Bay on Friday. Police responded to the scene along the shoreline behind the Thomas W. Zito Bayside Apartment complex in Bayonne.

“The Bayonne Police Department and Bayonne Fire Department arrived on the scene and confirmed the lifeless body of a man had been recovered behind the building in the area of 549 Avenue A,” the department said in a statement.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:02 p.m.

The victim has not yet been identified. Police are awaiting a medical examiner’s autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
