Belcamp, MD — A Cecil County mother’s routine stop at a local grocery store turned into a life-changing event when she won a $50,000 third-tier Powerball prize. The fortuitous purchase took place on June 22 at Klein’s ShopRite located at 1321 Riverside Parkway in Belcamp.
The northern Maryland resident, who enjoys playing lottery games as an occasional treat, decided to spend an extra $4 she had on a Mega Millions ticket and a quick-pick Powerball ticket during her grocery run. Although the Mega Millions ticket didn’t win, the Powerball ticket matched numbers that would soon escalate her excitement and future financial planning.
She discovered her win in her car, using the Lottery app to check her tickets, and initially questioned the amount she had won. After confirming the substantial prize of $50,000 with a friend, she took precautions by signing the ticket and storing it at her friend’s house until she could claim it at the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.
The lucky winner, a mother of two adult sons, intends to invest her windfall into her retirement fund. She was one of 11 national Powerball winners to claim a third-tier prize on that day and is among 34 Marylanders to win $50,000 in Powerball prizes in 2024.
