Norwich bank robbers caught after police pursuit

NORWICH, CT – On December 17, 2021 at approximately 3:40 p.m., the Connecticut State Police Troop E – Montville barracks was notified of an alarm at the Jewett City Savings Bank, located at 353 Route 165 in the Town of Preston, Connecticut. Shortly thereafter, dispatchers at the Troop E – Montville barracks received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at the bank, who reported they had been robbed. The suspect reportedly displayed a note demanding money, but no weapons were displayed. The caller provided a description of the suspect and the vehicle he left in.

Following the initial reports, the vehicle and suspect descriptions were broadcasted to area departments. A short time later, Norwich Police reported they located the suspect vehicle in the City of Norwich. The Norwich Police and Connecticut State Police then coordinated resources and attempted to stop the suspect vehicle. However, when police attempted to stop the suspect, he engaged police in a pursuit. In an attempt to elude police, the suspects vehicle made contact with Trooper Cash’s cruiser numerous times. The pursuit continued for a short period of time until troopers were able to stop and disable the suspect’s vehicle. Once the vehicle was stopped the male was placed into custody by Sergeant Litwin, Trooper Cash, Trooper Bresnan, and Trooper Stoner.

The suspect was then taken into custody and identified as a 34-year-old Ledyard man. At the time of his arrest, the accused man was still in possession of the cash he stole during the robbery.

The accused 34-year-old man had bail set at $100,000 and was charged with violating Connecticut General Statutes:
