Teen Arrested for February Shooting in Silver Spring

GAITHERSBURG, MD – Montgomery County Police have charged a 17-year-old male for his alleged involvement in a violent confrontation that resulted in a shooting on Hartford Avenue in Silver Spring earlier this year.

The incident, which took place on February 2, 2024, involved an adult male and his teenage son transferring property between vehicles when they were approached by four individuals exiting a Honda Civic.

The assailants attempted to hijack the adult’s vehicle, leading to a physical struggle that resulted in the adult being shot in the head and abdomen.

Following the altercation, the suspects fled the scene in the Honda. The victim, however, survived the ordeal and was subsequently released from a local hospital after receiving treatment.

The investigation led detectives to identify the 17-year-old as a participant in the crime. He was arrested on August 9 while already detained on unrelated charges. The young suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery, and is currently being held without bond at the Montgomery County Processing Unit.
