Toms River, NJ – Members of the Toms River Police Department Special Enforcement Team helped capture a suspect following a shooting in neighboring Lakewood Township earlier this month, according to Toms River PBA Local 137.
The incident occurred on July 22 while the Special Enforcement Team (SET) was conducting narcotics-related surveillance. Officers responded to a shooting in the area of the High Point Apartments in Lakewood Township and immediately began following the suspect as he fled the scene in a vehicle.
Pursuit ends with K-9 track
Authorities said the suspect drove into Toms River, where K-9 Officer Anthony Carafa initiated a vehicle pursuit. After a brief chase, the suspect crashed the vehicle and fled into a nearby wooded area on foot.
Officer Carafa and his K-9 partner, Ranger, joined members of the Special Enforcement Team in conducting a K-9 track through the treeline. The suspect was located, taken into custody, and turned over to the Lakewood Police Department for further investigation.
Timothy David Moore-Jackson, 29, was booked into the Ocean County Jail on Thursday following the incident.
Police union recognizes officers’ efforts
Toms River PBA Local 137 praised the officers involved in the incident, highlighting the work performed by the department’s specialized units.
“This is just a sample of what our members are out doing every day, and we here at PBA Local 137 would like to acknowledge their job well done,” the union said in a statement.
