Trader Joe’s salmon salad sold in New Jersey recalled

MONROVIA, CALIF. — Taylor Fresh Foods has voluntarily recalled a limited batch of Trader Joe’s Sesame Miso Salad with Salmon due to the potential presence of an undeclared milk allergen, the company announced Monday.

Roughly 500 units of the salad were incorrectly packaged with a sealed packet of parmesan cheese crumbles instead of crispy onions. The undeclared inclusion of milk in the product poses a risk to individuals with dairy allergies or sensitivities. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported.

The recalled salads bear Use By dates of April 28 and April 29 and were distributed to Trader Joe’s locations in 19 states, including New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and California.

The product was produced by Taylor Fresh Foods at its Illinois facility and labeled under Trader Joe’s store brand.

The issue was discovered internally and prompted a recall in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Affected customers are urged to discard the product if allergic to milk or at risk of an allergic reaction. The affected item weighs 10.25 ounces and carries UPC 00773164.

“The product may contain milk that is not declared on the label,” the company stated in its recall notice.

Recall affects select stores nationwide

The voluntary recall applies only to the Sesame Miso Salad with Salmon product distributed to select Trader Joe’s locations in Alabama, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

No other Trader Joe’s products or salads are impacted by the recall, and no other Taylor Fresh Foods brands are affected.

Customers with questions about the recall may contact Trader Joe’s customer service at (855) 455-0098 during business hours, Monday through Friday.

The undeclared milk was present in a sealed topping packet and was not mixed with the salad itself, according to the company. The affected parmesan cheese packet could pose a risk only if consumed by those with dairy allergies.
