Twice-deported honduran national arrested again by ice in massachusetts

BROCKTON, MA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a Honduran national in Brockton on April 16 for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported twice, ICE Boston officials announced Wednesday.

Oscar Lopez-Perez, 40, was taken into custody during a coordinated operation with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. According to ICE, Lopez-Perez has a history of criminal offenses, including a prior conviction for assault and battery and a pending charge for operating a vehicle under the influence.

“Lopez-Perez has displayed a complete disregard for U.S. immigration laws,” said Patricia H. Hyde, acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. “Additionally, he has presented a significant threat to the residents of Massachusetts.”

Lopez-Perez was first apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol in 2008 and ordered removed from the country in 2003 by a Department of Justice immigration judge. He was deported in January 2013 after a prior arrest by ICE Boston, and again in May 2013 following a reentry attempt.

Repeat reentry raises public safety concerns

Authorities say Lopez-Perez returned to the U.S. at an unknown time and location without authorization. He was later arraigned by the Stoughton District Court in 2020 for driving under the influence and operating a vehicle negligently.

Lopez-Perez remains in ICE custody as enforcement officers pursue legal proceedings for unlawful reentry and continued immigration violations.
