Middlesex County Man Receives 108-Month Prison Sentence for Violent Robbery Attempt

TRENTON, NJ – Jonathan Rosales, a 23-year-old from New Brunswick, New Jersey, was sentenced to 108 months in prison today for his involvement in a gunpoint robbery attempt that resulted in the victim being shot 14 times. U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced that the sentencing took place in Trenton federal court, presided over by U.S. District Judge Robert Kirsch.

The incident, which occurred on December 28, 2020, involved Rosales along with accomplices Saul Peralta and Giovanni Hoyos-Jaimes, attempting to rob an individual in New Brunswick. During the confrontation, the victim sustained severe injuries from multiple gunshot wounds but survived the attack.

Both of Rosales’s co-defendants have also faced legal consequences for their roles in the crime. Saul Peralta was sentenced on May 22, 2024, to 78 months in prison by Judge Kirsch, while Giovanni Hoyos-Jaimes is scheduled for sentencing on July 24, 2024.

Following his prison term, Rosales will undergo three years of supervised release. This case has been highlighted by U.S. Attorney Sellinger as a significant example of collaborative law enforcement efforts, involving the FBI’s Newark division, the New Brunswick Police Department, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, which together led to the resolution of this violent crime.
