Prosecutors say drugs, paraphernalia and a loaded handgun were seized during a 2025 investigation
Stafford Township, NJ — A 22-year-old Stafford Township man has pleaded guilty to cocaine distribution and illegal handgun possession after an investigation uncovered drug sales and a loaded firearm at his home, prosecutors said.
James Malandro entered the guilty plea on April 13, 2026, before Superior Court Judge Dina M. Vicari, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
Undercover investigation led to arrest
Authorities said the case stems from a months-long investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force and the Long Beach Township Police Department.
Investigators determined that between August and October 2025, Malandro sold cocaine to undercover law enforcement officers on three separate occasions in Ocean County.
On October 6, 2025, detectives conducted surveillance at Malandro’s residence in Stafford Township and later stopped his vehicle after he left the home. He was taken into custody without incident.
Drugs, handgun seized from home
Following the arrest, detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant at the residence, where they recovered approximately 20 grams of cocaine, a quantity of Adderall pills, and drug paraphernalia consistent with distribution, prosecutors said.
Authorities also seized a loaded handgun from the home, leading to additional weapons charges.

Sentencing expected in June
Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will seek a sentence of three years in New Jersey State Prison for the drug distribution charge and five years for the weapons offense, with a one-year period of parole ineligibility.
The sentences are expected to run concurrently, meaning they would be served at the same time.
Malandro was initially charged and lodged in the Ocean County Jail following his arrest but was later released under New Jersey’s bail reform policies, authorities said.
Ongoing case status
Malandro is scheduled to be sentenced on June 26, 2026, in Ocean County Superior Court, where a judge will determine whether to accept the recommended prison terms. He remains presumed innocent until sentencing is finalized.
