Suspects Posed as Federal Agents, Newark Police Say
The three men knocked on the victim’s apartment door and claimed to be federal agents, according to the Newark Department of Public Safety.
After demanding that she open the door, the suspects allegedly rushed inside and pushed the woman down onto a couch.
Police said one suspect, described as light-skinned and wearing a white shirt and blue jeans, held the victim down. Two masked accomplices then searched the apartment.
The intruders allegedly took $7,500 from a safe in a bedroom and two credit cards from the woman’s purse.
Police Hunt Suspects, Getaway Car
After the robbery, the three men left the apartment and joined the fourth suspect waiting in the black Toyota Camry Solara, police said.
The vehicle, which reportedly displayed out-of-state license plates, was last seen traveling east on Fleming Avenue. Investigators also released information indicating that a shuttle bus may have a connection to the home invasion.
