Dwi checkpoint scheduled for mount olive next weekend

MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. — Law enforcement officials have announced a Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) checkpoint will be conducted in Mount Olive during the weekend of December 6-8, 2024. The initiative is a joint effort between the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Mount Olive Police Department.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, which supports sobriety checks in municipalities across Morris County. The grant, intended to reduce impaired driving, is active through September 2025.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Mount Olive Police Chief Michael Spitzer underscored the importance of these efforts, noting that impaired and distracted driving remain significant threats to public safety.

The Prosecutor’s Office has coordinated similar operations in towns throughout the county and plans to continue doing so with advance public notice. Officials stated that checkpoints are an effective tool in discouraging dangerous driving behavior and protecting the community.
