Island Heights students celebrate Flag Day with Mayor Doyle and local leaders

ISLAND HEIGHTS, NJ — Island Heights Elementary School students gathered with Mayor Doyle and community members to celebrate Flag Day, reflecting on the significance of the American flag and its values.

During the ceremony, students known as the Sea Devils listened as speakers shared the deeper meaning behind the stars and stripes. “When we look at the American flag, we see more than just stars and stripes. We see stories—stories of courage, kindness, and working together,” said Ocean County Commissioner Frank Sadeghi

The event emphasized the symbolism of the flag’s colors, with red representing bravery, white symbolizing honesty and fairness, and blue standing for unity. The message highlighted the importance of caring for one another as a community and as a nation.

Attendees were reminded that saluting the flag goes beyond honoring a symbol; it is a commitment to uphold the values that strengthen towns, states, and the country. “We are promising to be the kind of citizens who make our towns, our state, and our country better for everyone,” the speaker added.

Young people encouraged to uphold traditions

The celebration also focused on the role of young people in preserving national values. “Our young people are the custodians of our way of life and will carry on our traditions of honor, valor, unity and country,” participants were told.

The gathering concluded with a shared expression of pride in the flag and what it represents for all Americans.

Island Heights students joined local leaders to honor the flag and reflect on its enduring meaning.
