ATLANTIC CITY, NJ—The Atlantic City Police Department has announced the arrests of two suspects following the shooting of an 11-year-old boy. The incident occurred on the night of May 25, 2024, at approximately 10:26 PM on North Rhode Island Avenue.

Responding officers found the young boy with a gunshot wound and provided immediate aid until he was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Yanirah Davis, 22, of Galloway, NJ, and Yontay Cooper, 33, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, were identified as the suspects.

The investigation revealed that the two women arrived at the scene armed with a hammer and a handgun following a prior altercation. They proceeded to smash a vehicle’s window and fired shots at a group. A stray bullet from the shooting tragically entered a nearby residence, striking the child.

Both suspects were apprehended on May 26, with Davis being taken into custody by Pleasantville police and Cooper by an Egg Harbor Township police officer. They face multiple charges, including ten counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering the welfare of a child, and conspiracy.

The Atlantic City Police Department extends its gratitude to the Egg Harbor Township, Pleasantville, and Galloway Township police departments for their support in the investigation.
