Police are searching for a suspect accused of repeatedly striking a 19-year-old man with a metal water bottle and placing him in a chokehold aboard a Manhattan-bound subway train.

Manhattan, NY – The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a violent assault aboard a northbound No. 5 subway train.

According to investigators, the attack occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, as the train approached the Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall station within the confines of the 5th Precinct and Transit District 2.

Police said a verbal dispute between the suspect and a 19-year-old male rider escalated into a physical assault.

Victim struck repeatedly during attack

Investigators allege the suspect repeatedly struck the victim in the head with a metal water bottle, punched him in the face multiple times, and placed him in a chokehold.

The NYPD did not release additional information regarding the victim’s injuries or whether he required hospitalization.

After the assault, the suspect exited the train at the Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall station and fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Crime Stoppers requests public assistance

The NYPD has released images of the suspect and is asking anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the incident to come forward.

The individual shown in the released images has not been charged with a crime, and police are seeking to identify the suspect as the investigation continues.
