Maryland man busted after gunpoint robbery over sunglasses in DC

Police say a Bowie man was taken into custody shortly after allegedly robbing a victim at gunpoint on Minnesota Avenue.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A Maryland man was arrested Tuesday after police say he held a victim at gunpoint and stole a pair of sunglasses in Northeast DC before officers quickly apprehended him.

The robbery happened at approximately 12:30 p.m. on June 30 in the 4000 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect approached the victim, displayed a handgun and stole the victim’s sunglasses before fleeing.

Responding officers located the suspect a short time later and took him into custody.

Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Jemise Dezzou, of Bowie, Maryland.

Dezzou was charged with armed robbery (gun).

The charge is an allegation, and Dezzou is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
