New Jersey Man Who Attacked Newark Cops on Friday in Custody

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé has announced the arrest of 31-year-old Khalil Cuttino of Phillipsburg, following an aggravated assault on two police officers. The incident occurred on Friday in the 300 block of Clinton Avenue.

Police were called to the scene at approximately 5:09 PM after reports of a male with a handgun. During the detention of a man fitting the suspect’s description, a large crowd gathered, and Cuttino allegedly struck two officers with closed fists before fleeing. The injured officers were subsequently transported to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition.

Following an investigation, detectives identified Cuttino as the assailant and obtained an arrest warrant. He was arrested today and is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on police officers and obstruction of the administration of the law.
