BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ –  Police activity was high today near Brick Township’s Maple Leaf apartment complex, leading the internet and social media to fill with rumors.  Was it a hostage crisis? Murder? Another drug bust?

No, according to Bryan Huntenburg of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, it was police investigating a report of “shots fired” in the neighborhood.

So far, police have not issued any details other than the investigation is ongoing.

“Brick Township Police Department is investigating a report of shots being fired in the area of Creek Road. At this point in time, there are no reports of any injuries or property damage.  This is an active investigation,” Huntenburg said.

Update: Brick police reported the gun has been recovered.  At this time no injuries or damage has been reported.  Police are interviewing possible suspects and witnesses.
