NEW JERSEY — Monday morning commuters across New Jersey faced significant delays and multiple incidents as crashes, disabled vehicles, and heavy volume created a challenging start to the week.
As of 8:17 a.m., the following major incidents were reported:
- I-80 Eastbound in Hackensack: A crash in the local lanes east of Exit 66 (Hudson Street) has closed the right lane, causing delays in the area.
- New Jersey Turnpike – Eastern Spur, Secaucus: Southbound lanes are partially blocked by a crash just north of Interchange 17E (NJ 3/Lincoln Tunnel), with the left shoulder closed. Additionally, a disabled vehicle is blocking the left shoulder northbound near the same interchange, further slowing traffic.
- I-280 Eastbound in West Orange: A crash on the exit ramp at Exit 7 (Pleasant Valley Way/CR 636) has closed the right lane, adding to congestion on this route.
- I-76 Eastbound in Gloucester City: An overturned tractor trailer on the ramp to northbound I-295 at Exit 1B is causing significant delays, with the right lane and shoulder closed. Drivers are advised to expect 10-15 minute delays and proceed with caution.
Major Delays on Bridges and Tunnels
- George Washington Bridge: Eastbound traffic on both the upper and lower levels is experiencing heavy delays, with current travel time estimated at 45 minutes from I-80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.
- Lincoln Tunnel: Both the south and center tunnels heading eastbound are seeing delays of approximately 35 minutes from New Jersey Turnpike Exit 16E to the New York side.
- NJ 495 Eastbound: Heavy delays persist from NJ 3 in North Bergen to Pleasant Avenue in Weehawken, with current travel time between 15 and 20 minutes.
Additional Traffic Delays
- NJ 24 Northbound: Commuters are experiencing delays, with travel times between 5-10 minutes.
- NJ 17 Northbound: Delays are reported from I-80 in Lodi to Passaic Street in Rochelle Park, with travel times also between 5-10 minutes.
- NJ 3 Eastbound: Heavy traffic from west of NJ 21 in Rutherford to east of the New Jersey Turnpike’s Western Spur in East Rutherford, causing delays of 10-15 minutes.
- Garden State Parkway: Northbound lanes are congested from south of Exit 136 (Stiles St in Clark) to north of Exit 137 (NJ 28 in Cranford), with a 2-mile delay reported due to volume.
