BUFFALO, N.Y. — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Friday removed a convicted child sex offender and Guatemalan national from the United States following his release from a New York state prison.

Alvaro De Jesus Martinez-Juarez, 55, had entered the U.S. illegally in 1990 through California. In 2015, the Nassau County Police Department arrested him on two counts of first-degree sexual conduct against a child under 13. He was convicted in 2017 and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Following his release from state custody in Wallkill, N.Y., ICE officers arrested Martinez on June 20 and held him at the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility pending removal proceedings.

Key Points

  • Alvaro Martinez-Juarez was convicted of sexually abusing a child and sentenced to 12 years
  • He entered the U.S. illegally in 1990 and was ordered removed in 2019

An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on April 9, 2019. Martinez was deported to Guatemala on June 28.
