NYPD says thief targeted basements, offices and safes over two-month span

NEW YORK, NY — Police are searching for a suspect believed to be responsible for a string of 11 commercial burglaries across Brooklyn and Queens, where investigators say businesses were repeatedly targeted through basement entrances before cash and other property were stolen.

According to the New York City Police Department, the burglaries occurred between Friday, May 8, and Friday, July 17, within the confines of the 76th, 77th, 78th, 79th, 83rd and 94th precincts.

Investigators said the same unidentified individual is believed to be responsible for all 11 incidents.

In each case, the suspect allegedly entered commercial establishments primarily through basement-level doors. Once inside, the individual accessed offices and safes before stealing U.S. currency and other property.

Police said the suspect fled each location on foot and remains unidentified.

The NYPD has released information about the pattern and is asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about the burglaries to contact Crime Stoppers.
