Gunfire across three Newark blocks triggers police manhunt

Newark police seek public help to identify two people tied to early morning shooting

Newark, NJ – A quiet stretch of early morning hours was interrupted when gunfire was detected across several blocks in Newark, prompting investigators to release images of two individuals they are trying to identify in connection with the incident.

Around 2:33 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, the city’s shot spotter system registered gunfire in the 100 block of Warwick Street and the 200 block of New York Avenue. Officers responding to the alerts recovered a 9mm shell casing at each location, with another casing found in the 50 block of Pulaski Street. No injuries have been reported.

Detectives are working to determine whether the locations are tied to a single shooting incident and how the two unidentified individuals are connected to the investigation. Authorities have not released additional details on what led to the gunfire or whether surveillance footage captured the moments before or after the shots were fired.

Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. is asking residents to review the images and contact the city’s 24-hour Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS. Tips can be submitted anonymously and may be eligible for a reward.

The investigation remains active as police continue gathering information.
