Investigators say a routine traffic stop uncovered a concealed compartment allegedly holding suspected heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine.
NORTH HUNTINGDON TOWNSHIP, PA — A routine traffic stop on Route 30 led to the discovery of a hidden compartment containing suspected heroin, fentanyl and crack cocaine, according to North Huntingdon Township Police.
The stop occurred in June after officers observed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 30 without the proper lights and with excessively tinted windows near North Thompson Lane.
Police identified the driver as Kylie Anne Vargo, 24, of Turtle Creek. A passenger was also in the vehicle.
According to investigators, officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. Police said Vargo admitted there was a marijuana blunt in the center console and a bag of marijuana inside the vehicle.
During a search, officers located what they described as an aftermarket hidden compartment in a void between the dashboard and center console.
Inside the concealed space, police found two plastic storage boxes mounted inside the compartment along with a digital scale. Investigators said the boxes were consistent with hidden “trap” compartments commonly used to conceal contraband.
After obtaining authorization to search the containers, officers recovered 16 bricks of suspected heroin/fentanyl and a plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine, according to police.
Investigators also found a second digital scale disguised as a vehicle key fob and six doses of Suboxone.
Vargo was arrested on July 23 and is charged with manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges are allegations, and Vargo is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
