JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Corrections Officer Bradley McNew, a 24-year veteran of the department, who was fatally shot while attempting to intervene in a violent altercation at a gas station.
McNew had just finished his shift when he encountered a male suspect assaulting a female at the gas station. While trying to stop the assault, McNew was shot by the male, who then fled the scene with the female in a vehicle.
Authorities launched an extensive search, and the suspect was apprehended on Sunday in North Carolina. The investigation is ongoing.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences to McNew’s family, friends, and colleagues, honoring his decades of service and bravery.
